voice crying in the wilderness,

miracle of mortification and penance,

O Lord, you have honored this world 

by the birth of Saint John the Baptist: 

grant that Your faithful people 

may be called to repentance 

and may recognize and work toward 

the coming of the kingdom, 

through Jesus Christ Our Lord.
